Oregon Mozart Players guest conductor Frank Graffeo returns to Eugene for his fifth season this week, to lead the annual Candlelight Concerts. Guest soloists Wesley Baldwin and Alice Blankenship (pictured), both originally from Eugene, performed together during their grade school, middle school and high school years. This performance marks the first time Baldwin and Blankenship have joined forces since 1983. The program includes favorites such as Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons," set against a backdrop of warm candlelight. See Friday Calendar.

Joan Baez's music has always reflected her actions — thoughtful and deliberate. Baez, who recently recorded her first new album in several years, has been a powerful force in political activism for more than four decades. Her Dark Chords on a Big Guitar mirrors the current state of the world and continues Baez's active exploration of the human condition. Revel in the work of this true artist at The Shedd this week. See Wednesday Calendar.

The UO serves up heaping helpings of tasty music this week. On Feb. 27, fill up on sweet sounds from South India, with music from Rajeswari Padmanabhan, Sreevidhya Chandramouli and Karthik Gopalaratnam, presented by the university's World Music Series. Then on Sunday, top the week off with Carmina Burana, German composer Carl Orff's dramatic cantata, featuring the University Symphony and University Singers. Mmm, good. See this week's Calendar.

Break Down would be exciting on its own; it's a dynamic hip hop dance show, eight months in the making, incorporating more than 150 dancers, including performers from Zapp, Tada Productions and the UO Dance Team. However, what makes it even more appealing is the fact that the group helps provide a positive environment within our community by donating proceeds from the annual event to local charities. This year's charity is the Turn Around School, an alternative school for at-risk youth. So get your groove and your philanthropy on, and check out the Friday Calendar.

Live the fairytale this week, when Eugene Ballet Company presents Toni Pimble's highly acclaimed Cinderella. Beauty, comedy and irony mix with stellar choreography and music by Sergei Prokofiev to create a performance not to be missed. See Saturday Calendar and Dance Column.
