Amy Goodman, host of the national radio/TV program "Democracy Now!" is on a tour with her first book, The Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers, and the Media That Loves Them. Her national tour, stopping at the UO's Columbia Hall, includes fund-raisers for Pacifica radio stations that carry "Democracy Now!" See Saturday Calendar.


WAR founder and singer Lonnie Jordan said his mission was to "spread a message of brotherhood and harmony." Some 35 years later, WAR's been one of the most successful bands to fuse rock, jazz, Latin and R&B, while keeping a multiethnic band line-up. First Friday Artwalk features a free guided tour of downtown art galleries and visual art attractions. The walk begins at 5:30 pm with work by Hannah Goldrich and Virginia Andrade at Jacobs Gallery. At 5:50 the walk moves to the White Lotus Gallery for Where the Road Leads Me, paintings by Jon Jay Cruson. Then, at 6:10 it's work by Dennis Gould and Quinton Hallett at the Karin Clarke Gallery. Next up at 6:30 the walk features work by Sherri Dobay, Tom Rohr and LiDona Wagner at Scan Design. Harlequin Beads is the next stop at 6:50, featuring work by Shelley Karras, Kate McKinley, Nancy Nelson and many others. The last stop, at 7:10 pm, features work by Mike E.
