They say they're going to be turning people away, so if you want a fix of this coveted get-out-the-vote folk-singing extravaganza, show up early. The Cascadia Wildlands Project's third annual Hoe-down for Cascadia's ancient forests takes place at Avalon Stables in Cottage Grove. All proceeds go directly to ancient forest protection, and the event features food, drink, and foot-stomping music by The Foghorn String Band. See Friday Calendar.

The 8th annual Permaculture Gathering, "Towards An Enduring Bioregion," takes place this weekend at the Maitreya Eco Village. Beginning with a keynote by Allan Kapular, the gathering also features workshops, panel discussions, a land-use bike tour, hands on activities and plenary sessions.
