.This Week's Calendar | Galleries | Music @ the Clubs

Deadline for Calendar and Art in the Galleries submissions are noon on Thursday, a week before the issue that covers your event. Send an e-mail with event, date, time, location and cost to attend to Molly at cal@eugeneweekly.com

The ball drops, the poppers go off, champagne sprays and people start singing "Auld Lang Syne" at the top of their out-of-tune lungs. Welcome to 2006! As always, Eugene offers a plethora of ways to ring in the New Year. Here's a sampling. See Saturday Calendar for more.

At Sam Bond's, catch an all-star lineup of local bands, including Los Mex Pistols del Norte, Yeltsin The Fast Computers (pictured at right) and Micah Sykes.

It's a Caribbean New Year's Eve Celebration with Norma Fraser and the Alliance Band at the Blue Luna.

The Audio Schizophrenic and Moonvoid bring in 2006 with sets at Sam's Place.

Fans voted, Floater listened: Their New Year's show at the McDonald Theatre will include two sets, one of new and miscellaneous songs, and one of their album Sink in its entirety. See story, page 25.

The Samba Ja press release asks, "What better way to ring in the New Year than the irrepressibly, possibly illegally jubilant sounds of the largest, loudest band for 100 miles around?" Catch the Brazilian percussion orchestra downtown at Ken Kesey Plaza, playing from 10:30 pm until people collapse.

Satin Love Orchestra's show at the Hilton includes the auctioning off of a guitar signed by the band, with all proceeds from raffle ticket sales going to the Relief Nursery.

The Koozies celebrate the New Year at the Wetlands with the psychobilly Sawyer Family and The Whopner County Country All-Stars. See story, page 25.

Dance in the 2006 with salsa lessons and DJs at the Vet's Club Ballroom, where the cover charge includes party favors and sparkling drinks for a midnight toast.

Luckey's New Year's Ball features Eleven Eyes and Natural Progression, with musical surprises from guest MCs and local musicians. Formal wear is requested — it's kinda fun to imagine Luckey's full of tuxedos.
