Papa's
Got a Brand New Floor
When I relocated to Eugene from New York, one of the jokes I heard was that the local news would feature lots of paint drying. And this just in: A notice from LCC that they have a new dance floor. Now, really, this is news. Why? Because dance, oft maligned, misunderstood, the artistic ugly stepchild, deserves better digs. I for one am tickled to see any budget spent on a new dance floor instead of Astroturf. So what game is Team Dance playing on this slick new surface? Bonnie Simoa has choreographed to the music of Terry Riley. Simoa also offers work brought back from a recent trip to Bali. Kim Vetter used inspiration from Friedrich Nietzsche's "Human, All-Too-Human" to create text and dance. Rita Honka presents "un ion," with live music by Anthony Dyer. Walter Kennedy's "Fault Boundaries" explores a decade's geology. Sarah Nemecek stirs up "After" with an original music composition by Melissa Stark. And Cheryl Lemmer lightens the mood with "Rockin' the Catwalk" with music by Diamond Nights. Spring Dance Concert at LCC will be presented at 8 pm May 11-13 in the Performance Hall (Bldg.6) on the main campus. $10 gen./ $8 stu./sen. at the door. Call 463-5202 for more info.
