Bodies in Motion

Passing the torch

BY EMILY CABLE

Four years ago, Karl Mundt moved to Eugene from New York and founded The Dance Factory after noticing that Eugene was missing a commercial type of jazz. The performance this weekend, "IN MOTION," is "unlike any other dance you'll see in Eugene," he said. "It's more like a showcase you'd see if you went to L.A."

Having worked professionally in Los Angeles and New York, Mundt strives to produce "high quality, well polished, synchronized dancing," he said. "We have experience competing and performing outside of the Eugene area and we've done well."

In addition to owning and directing The Dance Factory, Mundt coaches the UO Dance Team, which won a national championship earlier this year and will join the Saturday performance. No other college dance team from Oregon has ever won a title.

Divisi, an 11-member, all-female a cappella group will also perform. The group does their own musical arranging and covers songs ranging from oldies to R&B to contemporary music.

IN MOTION is Mundt's last hurrah in Eugene before moving and passing The Dance Factory on to one of his coworkers. "The show will have good variety and good production value," he said.

Tickets are available through all Safeway TicketsWest outlets for $10 and $8 for students and children. Show starts at 4 pm; doors open at 3:30.
