WHAAAAAAAAAAAAM! OK, we added a few extra As in there, but that's because we love us some Roy Lichtenstein, who rocks the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art (aka the J-Schnitz, not to be confused with the A-Schnitz Concert Hall in Portland) this month. That's right, Roy Lichtenstein: Prints 1965-1997 goes public with its cr-a-zee dots 'n' comix. Thing is, who doesn't love Lichtenstein? Warhol's a bit on the David-Bowie-Man-Who-Fell-to-Earth side; Jasper Johns is a little too brainy sometimes; but Lichtenstein, Mr. Pop Art Genius, is just about perfect. We could babble about this for many column inches if our editor let us, but we think you should see those Benday dots for yourselves. The colors! The sounds! The incisive commentary on post-war American culture! We mean, um, the fun comic-like prints! Bonus if you're a museum member: the J-Schnitz serves up yummy treats during openings. See Calendar for Thursday, June 15.

Do you miss Emerson, Lake & Palmer? If so, you're sort of (like, 1/3) in luck. Carl Palmer, the man, the myth, the drummer, comes to Eugene this week. The Carl Palmer Band has been touring Canada and the U.S. for just under a month, and on Monday comes to Taboo, which describes Palmer on its website as "a drummer's drummer." We think that means he plays a mean set o' percussion instruments, and we're sure that you want to find out more. See Monday Calendar.

And … FOOOOOOORE! Besides the squishing created by cranberry bogs (mmmmm … cranberry fudge … ), the sound you'll hear most often in Bandon now is related to golf. Yes, golf. How did Bandon get these famous Bandon Dunes links? Well, we'll tell ya. Actually, Stephen Goodwin, author of Dream Golf: The Making of Bandon Dunes will tell ya when he comes to read from his book at the UO Bookstore. Bandon is only one of the most beautiful places in a state overflowing with indescribably gorgeous sites, so we guess that if you're into golf, it might make sense to play there. Goodwin tells us the story of the guy who brought the Bay Area (yeah, that's what they call it) a ton of air traffic and retirees. Anyway, the jacket copy says that the book "is the gripping and compelling account of how one man followed his dream to its greatest conclusion." Leaving aside our awareness that this description could also apply to serious tragedies of the 20th century, we're kind of interested. Plus, we remember a lot of Father's Days when our grandfather would watch golf for fun, which makes the timing of the reading just about perfect for last-minute gifts to dads who love the rugged adventure sport that is golf. See Friday Calendar.

We're sure you totally know this, but just a reminder: on June 12, 1967, in Loving v. Virginia, the Supreme Court of the U.S. decided that maybe it wasn't such a good idea, like it was unconstitutional, not to allow people of two different (socially constructed) "races" to marry each other. The "freedom to marry," Chief Justice Earl Warren wrote for the majority, "has long been recognized as one of the vital personal rights essential to the orderly pursuit of happiness." Booyeah! Multiracial families, friends and supporters celebrate the 39th anniversary of the decision at a Loving Day/Father's Day Celebration at Cozmic Pizza, with kids' activities, spoken word, drumming, and a performance by Vibe Nation. See Sunday Calendar.
