.This Week's Calendar | Galleries | Music @ the Clubs

Deadline for Calendar and Art in the Galleries submissions are noon on Thursday, a week before the issue that covers your event. Send an e-mail with event, date, time, location and cost to attend to cal@eugeneweekly.com

Sometimes the best way to get an idea of a music group's popularity is to surf its MySpace comments. On Of A Revolution's page, "AJ" had this to say: "excellent job on the dvd! u guys continue to kick ass. i loved the explanation between the two different tempos of Poker and how it contrasts two different styles of you life. keep it up, this should keep me occupied until the next studio release." It's fitting because O.A.R. (as their cyber-chat groupies like to call them, preferring to shorten every word) has seen its popularity skyrocket thanks to the bane of the record industry's existence: bootlegging, illegal filesharing and social networking (all streamlined by college residence halls' lightning-quick LAN connections). Even with all that "illegal" activity going on, O.A.R. has still managed to sell more than 1.2 million albums and sell out Madison Square Garden (a show which is now available for purchase for those not web-savvy enough to find it for free in cyberspace). A recent tourmate with the Dave Matthews Band, O.A.R. has now embarked on a headlining tour with an opening act of its own, Bedouin Soundclash, and will land at the McDonald Theatre this week. See Monday Calendar.

Talk about hitting five birds with one stone. FOOD for Lane County's Youth Farm not only provides local teens (pictured left) with a hands-on experience in organic agriculture, helps grow food that will nourish our hungriest citizens and encourages teens to be stewards of the land and their lives, it also sells a portion of its products to the public through its farm stand — which will hold its grand re-opening this week — all sales of which help keep FFLC and its wonderful Youth Farm growing and improving. Located on Flamingo Avenue off South Game Farm Road in Springfield, this produce stand is the ideal place to pick up your supply of strawberries, peas, spinach, cucumbers, carrots, lettuce and salad mix. See Saturday Calendar.

If you were one of those people in college who fell asleep in the back of the science auditorium not because the ideas were too complex or too boring but because it was right after lunch and they turned the lights down for the overhead projector and the professor's voice was so soothing … well, the Science Pub lecture series has you in mind. Presented by OMSI, the UO, the Science Factory and hosted by Luna, these informal, monthly science lectures will hopefully enlighten you without the pressure of a highly competitive classroom environment. This week's lecture is led by UO professor Jim Hutchison (pictured right) on the topic of "Nanotechnology: New Science for Society and the Environment." Look for Science Pub the second Thursday of each month. Drinking, eating and asking hypothetical questions is enouraged. Snoozing is not. See Thursday, June 14 Calendar.
