Playing
only one or two shows a year (in their 10 years in
existence) of their "spot-on" covers of classic Pink
Floyd albums from Animal to The Wall,
The Floydian Slips' nigh-on annual Cuthbert
extravaganza makes this a special summer event not
to be missed (especially considering the low-cost
tickets). Members Ehren Ebbage, Ned Failing, Asher
Fulero, Paul Lesinski, Nicole Campbell, Rich Sellars,
Al Toribio and Brendan Relaford (most of whom do double
duty in other bands) all congregate at The Cuth for
a night of psychedelic black-light music, a spectral
light show and other hijinx (just, sadly, not a real
helicopter; the EPD put the kibosh on that last year).
See Saturday Calendar.
The
recent box-office success of splatterfest horror
flicks like Saw and Hostel has trickled
down to the local level and is best embodied by
Henry Weintraub's collection of B-movie shorts,
all of which can be viewed at his production company's
website, www.531productions.com,or
seen at various independent film festivals across
the country. Weintraub will debut his latest short
horror flick, MindSlime, at DIVA
on Saturday, with proceeds funding his first feature
film, which is currently in production. As for
MindSlime, here's a quick plot synopsis
(from the trailer): A green-glowing Japanese float
lands in the forest, and a beefy car mechanic
named Walt inspects it and soon finds himself
sweating a whole bunch, meeting similarly beefy
dudes in the bathroom at John Henry's (pictured
left), barfing up his lunch at John Henry's, smashing
a bottle over the head of a liquor store clerk
and taking a huge bite out of the slimy contents
of aforementioned Japanese float. Sounds delicious.
See Saturday Calendar.
Thanks
for the wine, dahling! Now, whatchya got for a
palate cleanser? Bread? Chips? Croutons? Garlic?!
Garlic!!! Why, I never! Well, if you insist …
oohhh, this is good. Now gimme a kiss! And hop
in my bike trailer! We're going to the Lorane
Valley Wine & Garlic Festival out at King
Estate Winery, where we can sample local wines
paired with garlicky foods. (And where we can
put our best breath mints to the test.) Is that
garlic ice cream, you say? Gimme a creamy mouthful
before I go check out The Sugar Beets, Joseph
Konty, Flight to Rio Trio or Elizabeth Cable on
the main stage. See Saturday and Sunday Calendars.
