.This Week's Calendar | Ongoing Calendar | Galleries | Music @ the Clubs

Deadline for Calendar and Art in the Galleries submissions are noon on Thursday, a week before the issue that covers your event. Send an e-mail with event, date, time, location and cost to attend to cal@eugeneweekly.com

Comedian Auggie Smith jokes about tornado warning systems, public smoking bans, casino economies and other loopholes in the American reality, all delivered in a manic rant. You might call this his schtick. That is, if you spoke Yiddish. Smith is currently living in the Big Apple, but he honed his comedic chops while living in Portland, being a regular standup at nightclubs of varying degrees of cleanliness (read about his hilarious encounter with Prozac the Alcoholic Bunny at Dante's on his website, www.tvdepot.com/auggie).According to a press release, Smith crafts "an honest, opinionated, innovative mix of politically incorrect mass appeal." We'll check him out and form our own opinion, thank you very much. See Wednesday Calendar.

The Mid-Valley Willamette Writers brings teacher and screenwriter Holly Brix to the Baker Building to kick off the 2007-08 speakers series. Brix will discuss "Blueprinting Your Screen-play," offering tips on story structure that would make every budding Charlie Kaufman proud. Coffee, tea and cookies will be provided. See Thursday, Sept. 13 Calendar.

We best remember Naughty By Nature (pictured) for their Jackson Five-sampling hit "O.P.P." (which, after all these years, we come to learn stands for "Other People's Pussy." Oh so charming). The three original gangstas who make up NBN — DJ Kay Gee, Treach and Vin Rock — were separated between 2000 and 2006 but were reunited after what Wikipedia calls a "fist fight" broke out between Kay Gee and Treach. Nothing like a little cut and jab to prove your love for a brother. Get down with O.P.P. at Taboo along with special guests Mackdub and DZO. See Thursday, Sept. 13 Calendar.

Oh, no! Many of this month's First Friday ARTWalk venues fall within the Eugene Celebration footprint! How will we get inside them if we don't want anything to do with the EC but want all that free art, wine and cheese? No problem. Special wristbands for art walkers will be available at the Blue Moon Jewelry Designs, Opus6ix and La Follette galleries, allowing access to the downtown EC zone until 8 pm. The first two stops along the walk are conveniently located outside of the EC zone. Art advocate Judy Allison will meet art walkers at Blue Moon for a spiel on jewelry designer Dennis Werst and his fusion necklace exhibition, "Hammer and Fire." Next stop visits a group quilt show by the Oregon Fiber Artists at Opus6ix before everyone slips on a wristband and enters the Fenario Gallery for giclée prints captured by cross-country traveling photographer Brian Allison. The final stop lands at the DIVA gallery, where five exhibits are on show with notable work by Lillian Pitt (pictured above) and Tenold Peterson (pictured right). See Friday Calendar.
