.This Week's Calendar
| Ongoing Calendar | Galleries
| Music @ the Clubs
Deadline
for Calendar and Art in the Galleries submissions are noon on Thursday,
a week before the issue that covers your event. Send an e-mail with
event, date, time, location and cost to attend to cal@eugeneweekly.com
| Snow
on Friday? Snow way, man! We predict a slight chance
of showers, chilly air with overcast skies leading
to overnight rise in temps as the clime gets all wet
'n' wacky for the Last Friday Artwalk, that
most rad-iculous of monthly customs and candy corporation
holidays. Bring your bag of goodies and join in the
fun at such underground art spaces like Better Yet,
The Art of Glass, Fucking Rocker Central, Territorial
Vineyards and other homes, studios, cardboard boxes
or coffeehouses. We're excited for Aaron Sullivan's
"Tectonic Jelly" multi-disciplined show of imaginative
depictions (pictured) at Wandering Goat and the debut
of an entirely new venue on Madison Street called
The Plural Noun (a house apparently inhabited by geeky
English grads). See www.lastfridayartwalk.org
and Friday Calendar.
|
| We
are currently amid an onslaught of big ensemble
bands with East European and gypsy elements taking
over Eugene venues like Sam Bond's, Indigo District
and WOW Hall. Now dub and roots reggae
begins its week-long bombardment of the WOW Hall.
Start on Friday with The Mad Professor
(pictured) and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad,
who each bring heavy doses of electronics, fat
bass tracks, blips and bleeps and ethereal vocals
to the Eugene dub-lubbers. Skip to Tuesday and
the legendary Itals take over the WOW in
a benefit show for the annual summer Tayberry
Jam on nearby Cougar Mountain. But wait! For another
$14 in advance or $9 at the door of The Itals
you can add tix for Thursday's reggae rager with
last year's NW World Reggae Festival headliners
Luciano and Mikey General (these
tix cost $20-$25 by themselves) and complete your
week of weary, bleary-eyed, weak-kneed wonder.
See Calendar.

| Sometimes
it's important to play with your
food. Sometimes it's even good that
you get creative with it. So it
is with much pleasure that Maude
Kerns Art Center brings back its
wildly popular "funky food show"
and gelatin-based art salon, Jellotopia,
for its 20th year. All you closeted
Jell-O artists out there are invited
to bring your creations (and $3
per piece) to MKAC between 3 pm
and 4:30 pm on Saturday. Additionally,
the foodies can contribute their
edible jiggly creations to the Tacky
Food Buffet. After his bowl of fruit
display last year (pictured), we
hope world-renowned Jell-O artist
David Gibbs brings his funky creations
back this year. The Radar Angels
and current and former S.L.U.G.
Queens (who most definitely will
drop their hats) will entertain
at this benefit for the MKAC. See
Saturday Calendar.
