.This Week's Calendar | Ongoing Calendar | Galleries | Music @ the Clubs

Deadline for Calendar and Art in the Galleries submissions are noon on Thursday, a week before the issue that covers your event. Send an e-mail with event, date, time, location and cost to attend to cal@eugeneweekly.com

As the naked sun sneaks a cautionary peek from behind the shower curtain cloud cover, plants, gardens and veggies get a little spotlight action this week. That dirt and those seeds do make good even if the climate is inconsistent at its best and feverish at its worst. On Saturday, buy up some veggies, herbs and flowers starts at the Spring Plant Sale at GrassRoots Garden, a fundraiser to support those cute kids (pictured) and hard-working teens at the FOOD for Lane County Gardens. And if your new year's resolution was to get serious about this whole "green" thing, then there's no better place to start then to sign up for a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) fruit and veggie subscription at the 9th annual That's My Farmer! event at the First United Methodist Church. Meet the local farmers who want to grow you delicious food delivered right to your home. Door prizes include a $200-off CSA subscription coupon, flats of blueberries, composting worms, fresh pork and more! See Tuesday Calendar.

Time to dust off the REAL Game of Life, box up the bajillion hand-made bracelets, shake out the screenprinted tie-dyed T-shirts, touch up the digital landscape photographs, harvest some veggies, tune some acoustic guitars and get ready for the REAL spring equinox event: the return of the Saturday Market! Rain or shine, there's no stopping this downtown Eugene institution from choking the Park Blocks with a festive atmosphere of creativity, local economy and yummy goods April through November. "It never rains on a marimba band," claims Market entertainment booker Kim Still, so they are featuring Hokoyo, a teen marimba band, for opening day. They also booked Market favorites Accordions Anonymous, Rich Glauber, Chip Cohen, Carolyn Cruso and Samba Ja (pictured) for good measure. See Saturday Calendar.

This month's First Friday ARTWalk is one big loop circling the downtown area. But with sunny skies in the forecast, there's no better time to sample this monthly art cruise fueled by wine and vittles. And this month starts at a relatively neglected art walk venue (WOW Hall) for a show that should not be shunned or snubbed. The "Unheard Voices/Unseen Lives: A Path to Empowerment" collects art by street youth in Eugene and Springfield and presents their work in a dignified manner, perhaps shedding light on some of the most misunderstood members of our community. The second stop visits the Hult Center for the lobby's youth art exhibit presented by the Eugene Symphony and the Jacobs Gallery "Latino Visions" curated exhibit of work (pictured) by various Latino artists (not to be confused with the Stuff White People Like-certified "Buddhist Visions" exhibit at the J-Schnitz). Stop #3 hits up Barry Geller's kitty portraits (withholding all LOLcat puns for the sake of "community friendliness") while stop #4 makes waves at the Fenario Gallery's "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" show of work by Jamie Burress and Mona Zillah. The cheese may be seeping into your waistline and the wine draining to your bladder, but you still have two more stops go! There are skilled photographs of ballet dancers by Kent Peterson to be had at La Follette Gallery and a non-juried bonanza of art hanging at the New Zone Gallery's "Zone 4 All" open exhibit, which celebrates its 25th year of giving part-time artists a chance to put their best foot forward. See Friday Calendar.
