.This Week's Calendar | Galleries | Music @ the Clubs

Deadline for Calendar and Art in the Galleries submissions are noon on Thursday, a week before the issue that covers your event. Send an e-mail with event, date, time, location and cost to attend to cal@eugeneweekly.com

As long as we’re on the topic of obscure names, the numerically-named 311 comes to the Cuthbert with Ziggy Marley this Sunday (same day Neko Case plays the McDonald). 311 originally called themselves Unity, but after lead singer Jim Watson was arrested for skinny-dipping, they dubbed themselves 311, the Omaha police code for indecent exposure. But we bet you already knew that when you were rocking out to “Down” in high school.

What do cryptozoological beings and beer have in common? Nothing usually as far as we know, but Saturday’s Sasquatch Brew Fest is named for brewer Glen Falconer whose nickname was “Sasquatch.” The fest shows off the Pacific Northwest’s specialty beers in Falconer’s memory. Sample craft brewing and support brewing scholarships and local non-profits as you sip from noon-10:30pm on Saturday and get home safely with a free LTD bus pass with a coupon you can download at www.northwestlegendsfoundation.org

The warm weather and sun bodes well for a summery First Friday ArtWalk this week. To see art such as the fantasy art of Michael Savage start off at 5:30pm at Modern, 207 E. 5th, and then on to Fenario Gallery, White Lotus Gallery, Jacobs Gallery & Opus6ix. Along the way peruse the downtown Summer Soirée, the Skateboard Art Show and  “Chalk the World” guerilla chalk drawings in front of the library by the kids at the First Congregational Church.
