Eugene Weekly : Calendar : 11.25.09

.This Week's Calendar | Galleries | Music @ the Clubs

Deadline for Calendar and Art in the Galleries submissions are noon on Thursday, a week before the issue that covers your event. Send an e-mail with event, date, time, location and cost to attend to cal@eugeneweekly.com

Axe & Fiddle must be doing something right. Not only has the Axe’s stage been graced by just about any folky/alt-country/indie/vaudevillian local band that matters, but — even way out yonder in cozy Cottage Grove — the club regularly draws good national acts, some of whom often skip Eugene altogether. That’s a sign of class, and a good enough reason to raise your glass at 4 pm Saturday, Nov. 28, when Axe & Fiddle’s 3rd Anniversary Party really cuts loose (it gets underway Friday with Zepparella). The fiesta features Richard Swift (pictured) — the Minnesota native son whose singer/songwriter star is rising fast— along with Guitar Recovery Project, Harmed Brothers, Donald 5 Pennies and more. And, yes, the party is FREE.

Local promoter Cindy Ingram, the brains and brawn behind the November-long Grrrlz Rock 2009 festival, is the sort of can-do asskicker that makes a hive of bees look lazy and inert. Under Ingram’s energetic and enthusiastic guidance, the festival has offered everything from dance, comedy and music performances, to workshops on glassblowing, gender awareness and self-defense. This weekend brings the festival to a thunderous conclusion with “Bring It On” Friday at WOW Hall, featuring a line-up of live music and dance that includes The T-Club, Luminessah (pictured) and Fiddlin’ Big Sue, followed by the Girls Aloud! Dance Party for All Womyn Saturday at Cozmic Pizza. Tickets Friday are $6 (free w/VIP pass); Saturday, $7, or $5 w/two or more non-perishable food donations for FFLC.
