Eugene Weekly : Calendar : 12.3.09

.This Week's Calendar | Galleries | Music @ the Clubs

Deadline for Calendar and Art in the Galleries submissions are noon on Thursday, a week before the issue that covers your event. Send an e-mail with event, date, time, location and cost to attend to cal@eugeneweekly.com

One man’s shit is another man’s Shinola. Witness, for example, the Found Footage Festival, a traveling road show curated and hosted by Nick Prueher and Joe Picket (pictured at bottom). Collecting hundreds if not thousands of discarded VHS tapes (those are the boxy things that came before DVDs and after BETA) scavenged from garage sales, thrift stores and Dumpsters, Prueher (a former Late Show alum) and Pickett (a film technician) screen and comment upon such discarded classics as 1990’s “The Cat Care Video Guide” starring Rue McClanahan (pictured top) and “Something Big,” generally recognized as “the world’s first nude pop video.” These crème de la dreck classics and more can be seen in all their unholy glory Sunday, Dec. 6, at Bijou Art Cinema. $10, www.foundfootagefest.com

And we ask: Why not? Following in the footsteps of such (sometimes questionable) supergroups as The Firm, Traveling Wilburys and Audioslave, the trio of Corea, Clarke & White applies the all-star formula to jazz in the 21st Century. Chick Corea, one of the genre’s best known keyboardists, first gathered together the line-up of bassist Stanly Clarke and drummer Lenny White to record Return to Forever in 1972, and it’s been reported that this most recent incarnation of the band has been reaching back and dipping deep into Corea’s growing songbook. You can watch these legends get back to basics Tuesday at Hult Center. $32-$56, www.hultcenter.org
