Eugene Weekly : Calendar : 5.13.10

.This Week's Calendar | Galleries | Music @ the Clubs

Deadline for Calendar and Art in the Galleries submissions are noon on Thursday, a week before the issue that covers your event. Send an e-mail with event, date, time, location and cost to attend to cal@eugeneweekly.com

George Orwell warned that “if you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face — forever.” In an attempt to unlace the implications of that jackbooted prophecy, students, staff and faculty at UO are staging “Fashion Resistance to Militarism,” a show of “counter couture” that will shine a klieg light on “the high cost of militarism in our society.” Deconstructing everything from tank tops to khaki pants, local designers will iron out our largely unconscious assumptions about the role of war, military-industrial profiteering and the homophobic/sexist/aggressive tendencies inherent in the more-than-skin-deep influence of G.I. jack-offs in everyday fashion. Don’t miss this free and peace-loving public event, starting 7pm Thursday, May 13, at Agate Hall.
