Deadline for Calendar and Art in the Galleries submissions are noon on Thursday, a week before the issue that covers your event. Send an e-mail with event, date, time, location and cost to attend to cal@eugeneweekly.com

Satirical, corny, melancholy and always entertaining, Garrison Keillor’s long-running radio/stage program “A Prairie Home Companion” is a vestige of vaudeville that fondly skewers the proud and taciturn Protestant culture of snowbound Minnesota (“Where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking…” etc.). Behind the cottony gauze of Andy Griffith-style nostalgia hides Keillor’s sharply observed and darkening wit, which he wields like an upper-Midwest Mark Twain, poking fun into the ticklish ribs of overlapping generations of gossipy, stubborn and essentially decent Scandinavian immigrants. At the Cuthbert Friday expect such beloved skits as “Guy Noir, Private Eye” and “The News from Lake Woebegone,” along with the usual blend of crackerjack musicians and bit players, all herded into one classically American package by Keillor’s lulling baritone. $35 gen., $50 res.;
tickets at www.thecuthbert.com or 682-5000.

One EW staffer about jumped on the roof and started dancing when she saw that the smart, funny singer-songwriter Susan Werner would be at the Stillpoint Farm Women’s Festival. Thankfully, Susie’s performance doesn’t compete with the Celebration Parade, but the first-ever fest at the farm has music, “healing arts,” workshops and more, including performances by Alice DiMicele, Grandmother Agnes Pilgrim and Slow Ponies, running all day Saturday, Aug. 28. 10am-7pm; $20-$33 sliding scale; visit http://stillpointfarmsfestival.com for the sked & more info (yep, men are welcome).
