Eugene Weekly : Calendar : 5.19.11

.This Week's Calendar | Galleries | Music @ the Clubs

Deadline for Calendar and Art in the Galleries submissions are noon on Thursday, a week before the issue that covers your event. Send an e-mail with event, date, time, location and cost to attend to cal@eugeneweekly.com

After surviving liver cancers death sentence, Curtis Salgado has become synonymous with friendship as a vehicle for beating impossible odds, just as he is with his incarnation of the blues, which has a little bit of a British sound (think of a young Peter Green). The Portland-based musician grew up in Eugene, and returns Friday night to play a 9pm show at Whiskey River Ranch in Springfield.

Salgado inspired John Belushi to create the Blues Brothers; the Blues Brothers album Briefcase Full of Blues is dedicated to him. After continuing to tour and create new music year after year, Salgado faced certain death without a liver transplant that he couldnt pay for. Friends like Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt and Steve Miller played shows to help him front the money.

Now successfully transplanted for four years, Salgado is touring for fun, and to promote his album Clean Getaway. Like all Salgados shows, its sure to get the crowd on its feet.
