Eugene Weekly : Calendar : 11.17.11

.This Week's Calendar | Galleries | Music @ the Clubs

Deadline for Calendar and Art in the Galleries submissions are noon on Thursday, a week before the issue that covers your event. Send an e-mail with event, date, time, location and cost to attend to cal@eugeneweekly.com

Even music-lovers sometimes have trouble understanding that bluegrass can evolve and get a little punky around the edges. That’s not to say critics and bluegrass fans are anything less than wild about The Devil Makes Three; it’s just that everyone has a rough go of it describing their sound. The trio creates bluegrass-ish music that’s a stompin’ good time without even needing a drummer; The Devil has a guitar, a banjo and an upright bass to do the work. The band describes it best in an interview with Pop Culture Madness: “We sound like Freddy Mercury with a pogo stick on a back of a pony with Lyle Lovett playing the ukulele and the tambourine. If you don’t understand that, you don’t understand us.” The Devil Makes Three plays the McDonald Theatre 8:30pm Friday, Nov. 18; $17.50 adv., $20 door.
