Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah is having its annual meeting and celebration starting at 6 pm Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Vet’s Club, 1626 Willamette St. Speaker will be Scott Black, executive director of the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, will speak on “Pollinators and Pisgah.” See bufordpark.org. 

City Club of Eugene will look at “When & Where is Sleep a Legal Right?” at noon Friday, Oct. 11, at the Eugene Hilton lobby level. Speakers will include Alley Valkyrie, activist and community organizer, Pat Farr, of the Lane County Commission, and professor Ofer Raban of the UO School of Law. $5 or free for members.

Better-Eugene Springfield Transit (BEST) is having a “Beer By Bus” fundraiser and celebration of mass transit from 4 to 8 pm Friday, Oct. 11, at Claim 52 Brewing, 1030 Tyinn St. near LTD’s Seneca Station and across from the DMV. Nacho’s will be there offering snacks. Free event with raffle prizes at 6:30 pm. More information at wkly.ws/1kr.

UO historian and professor William Toll will introduce the documentary film showing of Liberators: Fighting on Two Fronts in World War II at 3 pm Sunday, Oct. 13, at Temple Beth Israel, 1175 E. 29th Ave. The film looks at African-American soldiers with the 761st Tank Battalion and their liberation of the Nazi concentration camp at Buchenwald.

A fundraiser for CAHOOTS (Crisis Assistance Helping Out on the Streets), a program of White Bird Clinic, will be from noon to 9 pm Monday, Oct. 14, at Ninkasi Brewery, 272 Van Buren St. Money raised from pint sales will go to CAHOOTS winter drive for supplies for the homeless. 

A series of Eugene Budget Committee interactive community workshops will be from 6 to 8  pm Tuesday, Oct. 15, at South Eugene High School, and continue the same time Oct. 23 at Sheldon High School, Oct. 24 at North Eugene High School, Oct. 29 at Willamette High School and Oct. 30 at Churchill High School. A permit modification for Seneca’s biomass incinerator goes to a Lane Regional Air Protection Agency public hearing from 6:30 to 9 pm Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Harris Hall, 125 E. 8th Ave. The hearing will include an informational overview, question- and-answer period and then public testimony. Find a sign-up list near the door. Written comments can also be submitted up until 5 pm Oct. 30. A public hearing on LTD’s draft Long-Range Transit Plan will be held during the LTD Board of Directors meeting starting at 5:30 pm Wednesday, Oct. 16. See ltd.org for a draft of the plan and how to comment up until the Nov. 1 deadline.
