The theater community, and Eugene at large, is mourning for Mark Lewis, the beloved Emmy-winning storyteller, actor, author, teacher and father who passed suddenly Sunday, Dec. 7. Lewis’ talents will be remembered near and far for his voiceover work with Disney Imagineering on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride; for Word Pictures: Storytelling with Mark Lewis; for his appearances on Grimm and Northern Exposure; and for teaching presentation skills at the UO’s School of Journalism and Communication. Lewis was planning a Winter Storytelling Show, which he moved from November to early 2015 due to surgery. For those who wish to share stories, photos or blessings, Lewis’ family has set up a memorial site at mark.lewis.muchloved.com.

Academy of Arts & Academics (A3) high school students are hosting Photographic Silhouette, a photography exhibit running at the Emerald Art Center’s Jaqua Gallery in Springfield through Dec. 31, with an opening reception 5 pm Friday, Dec. 12. A3 Photography Instructor Bren Kleinfelder writes, “The exhibit quietly emphasizes the experience, issues and concerns of teenagers cloaked behind thin sheets of fabric or paper. The work was inspired after viewing the work of Kara Walker (African-American artist who works with cut-paper silhouettes) at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art last spring. Students were interested in how Walker explored personal concepts through a simple, powerful visual narrative — so, as their photography teacher, I developed a studio lighting project around ‘the silhouette.’”  Kleinfelder’s photos of his “contemplation on atoms” will also be on display.
