• Two neighborhood annual picnics are Thursday, July 31. Jefferson Westside Neighbors gather at 5 pm at Monroe Park and Fairmount Neighbors gather at 6 pm at Hendricks Park.

• A memorial for longtime marijuana activist Jim Greig will be at 11 am Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Church of the Resurrection, 3925 Hilyard St. Following the service will be a gathering at Maurie Jacobs Park for a potluck and sharing of stories at the Jim Greig Inspirational Stage by the soccer field. Medicare’s 49th birthday is being celebrated locally. The Grannies will sing at a gathering for Health Care for All Oregon at 6 pm Tuesday, Aug. 5, in front of the Lane County Health Department at 7th and Charnelton. • The annual Hiroshima & Nagasaki Commemoration will begin with a potluck at 6:30 pm Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Alton Baker Park. The program will begin at 7:30 and the luminaria float on the pond will be at 8:45. Performances are planned by Eugene Taiko, JAA Obon Dancers and the Yujin Gakuen Children’s Peace Choir. • Tickets are now available at Tsunami Books for “Viet Nam: An Inner View” live multimedia performance and book release at 7 pm Friday, Aug. 8, at Tsunami Books, 2585 Willamette. The event marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution in 1964, authorizing U.S. military involvement in the Vietnam War. Sens. Wayne Morse and Ernest Gruening were the only “no” votes in the Senate against the war. A reception for advance ticket holders ($10) will begin at 5:30 pm. Tickets day of the program are $11.
