• The Statewide Trails Plan for Oregon was completed in 2005 and is now being updated with input from public meetings around the state. Planning covers motorized ATV trails, snowmobile trails, nonmotorized trails, water trails and state Scenic Waterways. The last meeting will be in Eugene from 6 to 8 pm Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Washington Park Center, 2025 Washington St. See wkly.ws/1u3 for more information.

• Why Eugene has little racial diversity will be explored by Judith Mowry and Mark Harris at City Club of Eugene at noon Friday, Oct. 31, at the Downtown Athletic Club, 999 Willamette. Title of the program is “The Past is Ever Present: How Past and Present Practices and Policies Share Our Experiences of Community.” $5 for non-members. The program will be recorded for rebroadcast on KLCC radio at 6:30 pm the following Monday.

• Supreme Court journalist and author Garrett Epps will be back in Eugene next week to speak about his new book, American Justice 2014: Nine Clashing Visions on the Supreme Court. Epps will speak at 4:30 pm Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Knight Law Center Wayne Morse Commons. Epps is a former UO law professor who now teaches at the University of Baltimore School of Law. He covers the Supreme Court for The Atlantic and contributes to The American Prospect. See waynemorsecenter.uo.edu. 

Eugene’s sick leave ordinance administrative rules are being developed. A series of public meetings are being held and the last will be from 6 to 8:30 pm Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Eugene Public Library. See eugene-or.gov/sickleave for more information.
