Activist Alert 6-14-2012

• Sunday, June 17, marks Occupy Eugene’s 50th interfaith meditation/prayer circle and the group is hoping to have 50 people show up at 1 pm for communion ceremony, followed by Sufi dancing, qi gong, meditation/prayer and a Native pipe ceremony. The event will happen at the old Federal Building at 7th and Pearl.

• The Independent Party of Oregon will nominate candidates for the November election by conducting its own 2012 primary election from June 19 through July 17. The deadline for becoming a candidate is June 14 (find application at www.indparty.com/candidates). There is no filing fee for candidates who submit a small number of support petitions from Independent Party members.

• Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan will be speaking at 7 pm Friday, June 22, at the small amphitheater in Maurie Jacobs Park, off River Road and across the river from Valley River Center. Her son Casey was killed in the Iraq War and she has become an outspoken critic of American foreign policy under both Bush and Obama. More information next week.
