Día de los Muertos

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a holiday that originated in Mexico, but is celebrated all throughout Latin America. Luckily, if you want to take part in celebrating and recognizing the lives of the deceased, there are events happening right here in town! The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art (1430 Johnson Lane) is wrapping up its multi-day Día de los Muertos celebration from 6-9 pm Thursday, Nov. 2. The event will feature traditional art, music, food, dance and poetry as well as altars with offerings. The event is FREE. For more Día de los Muertos fun, head to Maude Kerns Art Center (1910 E. 15th Avenue) to check out their Day of the Dead exhibit featuring photographer Salina Canizales and acrylic painter Eileen Finn (whose painting is the image for this blurb). It’s running through Friday, Nov. 3. Maude Kerns has a suggested donation of $3 per person and $5 per family. — Meerah Powell
