International Vulture Awareness Day

There are pretty traditional activities to do on Labor Day weekend. It’s almost fall; you can get out, have a picnic, throw a BBQ, or you could get a little more out of the ordinary and celebrate International Vulture Awareness Day with Cascades Raptor Center. According to vultureday.org, International Vulture Awareness Day is a worldwide event that takes place the first Saturday in September every year. It celebrates the fact that “vultures are an ecologically vital group of birds,” and that “many species are under pressure and some species are facing extinction.” The Cascades Raptor Center is celebrating the day locally by hosting vulture-themed activities for kids of all ages and their families. Attendees will also get the chance to visit with the Raptor Center’s resident Turkey Vultures, Lethe and Kali.

International Vulture Awareness is being celebrated from 10 am to 1 pm Saturday, Sept. 2, at Cascades Raptor Center (32275 Fox Hollow Road). Admission the Raptor Center is $9 for adults, $8 for students/seniors and $6 for youth ages 2-12. — Meerah Powell
