Mount Pisgah Arboretum’s Mushroom Festival

If you’re looking for family-friendly, seasonal activities this October, the Mount Pisgah Arboretum’s Mushroom Festival is the place to be. Complete with hayrides, live music, tasty local food options and a scarecrow contest, the festival is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon with the family. Plus, if you’ve got a munchkin who’s excited about fungus, there are exhibits of more than 350 mushrooms they can check out, with experts on hand to identify the little caps. Be sure to catch a guided nature walk — Mount Pisgah’s guides know nearly everything about the local flora. And for gardeners, there’s a plant sale with local vendors ready to supply your autumn plant needs.

The Mushroom Festival is 10 am to 5 pm Sunday, Oct. 29, at Mount Pisgah Arboretum, 34901 Frank Parrish Road. $8; kids 12 and under are FREE. — Kelly Kenoyer
