Electric Apricot – Quest for Festeroo

The Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts (DIVA), located in the heart of the Eugene Celebration and known for its attention to art and experimental film, is hosting this year’s Film Festival which consists of films ranging from knee-slapping hilarious to awe-inspiring. The Festival offers a combination of short clips and feature films and kicks off the entertainment at 7 pm on Friday, Sept. 12, with the (deeply pertinent in Eugene) jam band mockumentary Electric Apricot – Quest for Festeroo, written and directed by Les Claypool.

The entertainment doesn’t stop there. At 1 pm on Saturday, Sept. 13, the experimental film genre begins with Jaskar’s Zeitgeist and continues with Midsummer Dream and Third Eye. At 1:30 pm get ready for the tear-jerkers Blue Angel and The Note. Bring your hankies for these films, which cover the impact of traumas including sexual abuse and cancer.

Stay local and stay cool: Eugene-area teens express their visions of the world at 2:30 pm, and those visions are varied. Just to mention a few: Fight Against Nature, Evil Barbie, The Monster in the Locker and Cookie Monster. At 3:30 pm a group of talented new adult filmmakers takes the screen. Some of the films include Our Man in Eugene, Cut Flowers, Split and The Golden Pose.

The festival wraps Saturday up with two coming-of-age feature films, Revolution at 5:30 pm and Garage at 7 pm.

To find out more about Sunday’s lineup, as well as the other films not listed above, see Molly Templeton’s review of the feature Squeegee Bandit in the paper, and check out www.eugenecelebration.com/film_festival
