Phrenics Terminate Terminal City

The roller derby bout Saturday night, June 18, was like the plot to 300. Due to injuries and scheduling conflicts, Terminal City Rollergirls All Stars only brought nine skaters (teams usually use 14). The unranked visitors from Vancouver, BC were also battling the powerful 12th-ranked Emerald City Skatesaphrenics. Despite being overmatched, Terminal City put up a Spartan fight.

With a 14-6 lead nine minutes into the hour-long bout, it looked like Terminal City might give the Phrenics a skate for their money. Enter Bullet Brains. As the scorer, Bullet jammed through Terminal Citys defense for a 17-0 run. The Phrenics would not trail again.

A 72-34 halftime advantage only served as a prequel to the trouncing. The Phrenics held Terminal to only five points in the second half. “Emerald Citys three-skater walls were impenetrable,” Terminal Citys risquée biznatch told me. “Their ability to use each other to truck-and-trailer me out of bounds was outstanding.”

Final score: Skatesaphrenics 127, Terminal City 39.

Skatesaphrenics Katarina Van Rotten was top scorer with 37 points. Terminal Citys Rollergirl led all blockers with 54 blocking actions (41 jammer stops, 13 assists for her jammer).
