Local Authors to Read at Tsunami

Four writers with Oregon roots will be discussing their work and reading excerpts at 5:30 pm on Saturday, April 6, when the Oregon Writer’s Collective (OWC) presents “Native Sons: an evening of Oregon poetry and prose,” at Tsunami Books.

The writers at the heart of the night’s reading are J.T. Bushnell, Peter Brown Hoffmeister, Jay Nebel and Anthony Robinson. As described by the OWC, they work “in all genres of narrative and lyric art,” ranging from fiction and non-fiction to memoir and poetry and are brought together from Portland, Corvallis and Eugene.

Bushnell is currently in the process of writing a collection of stories, titled What Adults Do, and is also working on a novel that is in its early stages. Hoffmeister, winner of the Oregon Literary Arts Fellowship in 2006 for Loss, a collection of fiction, released his first book, End of Boys, in 2011. The South Eugene High School teacher’s second book, Let Them Be Eaten By Bears — A Fearless Guide to Taking Our Kids Into the Great Outdoors, is set to be released this May, while his first novel, Graphic the Valley, will hit the bookshelves two months later. He isn’t about to put his pen down, either, as he is working on his second novel.

Nebel’s poetry is renowned, and has been featured in American Poetry Review, Narrative and Tin House, among others. He authored a chapbook — a pocket-sized booklet — titled Loud Mouth, published in 2006.

Finally Robinson, a graduate of the UO, will read from his poetry that has been featured in many journals, including Quarterly West. Like Nebel, he authored a chapbook that was published in 2006, titled Brief Weather & I Guess a Sort of Vision. A collection of his work will become available sometime in 2014.
