Back Beat

Neko Case with The Head and The Heart is at Cuthbert Amphitheater Sept. 19, and Rufus Wainwright is at The Shedd on Oct. 25.

But before all that, we’ve got a summer music season to get through. Indie noise-poppers No Age play Cozmic Aug. 19, and the Eugene Celebration has announced a gem of a lineup including Seattle’s Pickwick, Pinback, Menomena, Y La Bamba and Everest among many other great local acts. The Eugene Celebration is Aug. 23, 24 and 25 in newly refurbished downtown EUG. Tickets on sale now — don’t miss it!

In addition to all that great stuff, summer in Eugene promises WOW Hall appearances from living legend Gary Numan Aug. 29 and chillwave artist Washed Out on Sept. 5. Indie rock darlings The Dodos just announced a show at Cozmic Friday, Sept. 6.

“Quit telling me about stuff in the far-off future!” We hear you exclaiming.

Well, on Saturday, June 29, Perhapst is playing Sam Bond’s Garage. Let us give you a little hint: Perhapst is John Moen of the Decemberists, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Elliot Smith and The Maroons. He’s in town supporting his latest album of jangly indie-pop, Revise Your Maps, out now on Portland-based Jealous Butcher Records. Eugene’s Tom Heinl and Mood Area 52 (who are celebrating the release of a new album) will be joining Perhapst at Sam Bond’s Garage; 9:30 pm, $5.

EW’s Next Big Thing Song of the Week:  “The City” by Paris Green. Paris Green is a new project featuring Eugene’s multi-talented Leo London, Nick Garner and Colin Redmond. “The City” starts quiet and dreamy; “Everyone’s in a band in this city” is the opening line, delivered in a lazy and quavering whiskey drawl. Next, the song settles into a solid and driving alt-country middle bit featuring a shredding punk rock guitar solo. “The City” eschews standard verse-chorus-verse structure for something more impressionistic — referencing Paul Westerberg but remaining thoroughly “now.” To enter the contest or vote on your favorite local musicians, visit nextbigthingeugene.com.
