The challenges facing bees is the topic at City Club of Eugene at noon Friday, Dec. 4, at the Downtown Athletic Club. Speakers include Ramesh Sagili of OSU, Aimee Code of the Xerces Society for Invetebrate Conservation, and Jen Hornaday of Healthy Bees = Healthy Gardens. $5 for non-members. The following week, Dec. 11, City Club will hold its annual “Gifts to the City” program with various speakers. See cityclubofeuegene.org.

• The documentary The Business of Amateurs dealing with the rights of student athletes will be shown at 6 pm Friday, Dec. 5, at Learning Innovation Center 128 on the OSU campus in Corvallis. Writer and director Steven Christian, a former OSU football player, will be on a panel after the showing, along with other speakers and representatives from the OSU faculty. Free. • Two vacancies are open on the committee advising Oregon Department of Forestry staff on forest operations, projects and activities. One vacancy represents the environmental community and the other represents non-motorized recreation. Deadline to apply is Dec. 9.
