Back Beat

Greetings from the dog days of summer: This week, to help pass the warm drowsy evening-time, Eugene offers an eclectic lineup of live music, from the return of L.A.-based freak-folk artist Globelamp to the second local show in less than a year from Portland indie-rock living legends The Dandy Warhols

Globelamp plays with Tashaki Miyaki and Mischief Mistress 5 pm Monday, Aug. 15, at The Boreal; $5, all ages until 7 pm.

And what kind of hipster juju was sprinkled on Eugene to earn two visits from the Dandys in such a short timespan? Best not to ask questions and simply enjoy: The Dandy Warhols play 8 pm Friday, Aug. 12, at WOW Hall; $20 adv., $25 door, all ages.

Next I want to tip you off to a couple hot show announcements far off in chilly November. Neko Case returns to town Thursday, Nov. 10, at McDonald Theatre. Also, critically acclaimed indie-rock wunderkind Car Seat Headrest comes back to Eugene Thursday, Nov. 18, at WOW Hall. If you missed Car Seat Headrest’s excellent show at Sam Bond’s in January, don’t make the same mistake twice. Tickets for both shows are on sale now.

If you’re into the gritty neo-blues of The Black Keys mixed with the cocky swagger of The Black Crowes and the sweet stomp-clamp of Mumford & Sons, check out Kaleo. Despite sounding thoroughly Yankee blues rock, Kaleo hails from, of all places, Iceland, and this is a sure-fire chance to say you saw them “when.” Kaleo plays with Roses and Revolutions 9 pm Friday, Aug. 12, at Hi-Fi Music Hall; $15 adv., $18 door, 21-plus.

Also at Hi-Fi, don’t miss L.A. hip-hop legends People Under the Stairs 9 pm Wednesday, Aug. 17; $21 adv., $25 door.

This week Portland dark-pop post-punk act Shadowlands plays its inaugural show in Eugene alongside Murderbait and Somber 9 pm Friday, Aug. 12, at Old Nick’s; $5 door, 21-plus. Shadowlands features several Eugene-area natives, and they come to town in support of their full-length debut entitled, appropriately for the band’s sparse sound,  001

And little Cottage Grove will be graced by the dulcet tones of neo-country singer-songwriter Courtney Marie Andrews, who also plays guitar for indie songwriter Damien Jurado. Andrews is touring in support of her highly anticipated new release Honest Life, out Aug. 19 on Mama Bird Recording Co. Andrews has one of those brutally honest roots-music singing voices that makes you sit up, tip your hat and say hello. Courtney Marie Andrews plays 8:30 pm Sunday, Aug. 14, at Axe & Fiddle; $5, 21-plus.
