What? Pet Fees Are No Longer Legal In Oregon?

It may come as a surprise to some landlords, renters and even attorneys in Oregon that pet fees have not been permitted by Oregon statutes for the past five or six years. But confusion about the law remains, most likely because Oregon Revised Statutes 90.302 does not actually declare that pet fees are prohibited; rather, the list of “Fees allowed for certain landlord expenses” no longer includes non-refundable pet fees. RIP, Hershel Bloom Of White Bird Clinic Fame

Longtime White Bird Clinic crisis worker and case manager Hershel D. Bloom died in New Philadelphia, Ohio, Jan. 25 at the age of 66. He had moved from Eugene back home to Ohio a few years ago to be closer to family when his health began to fail.  “Hershel was a remarkable person, and probably the most unique individual I have ever known,” says Chuck Gerard, clinic coordinator at White Bird. Gerard says Bloom had a “special ability to connect with other folks without judgment,” and he “became a model for what was possible.” Continue reading 

Water rescue at Cape Kiwanda

In the search for a missing teenage girl who fell into the water at Cape Kiwanda last weekend, two local fire and rescue workers got into trouble when their personal watercraft capsized in the surf. A Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter rescued them in this video shot by a State Police officer's body camera. The search for the 17-year-old, Megan Owens of Marysville, Washington,  continues.
