The Willamette Valley Sustainable Foods Alliance (WVSFA) is delighted to host the 10th annual “Fun with Fermentation”. The event will be held on Sunday, October 7th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Downtown Lane Community College campus at 101 W 10th Ave. Eugene, Oregon.
Get your good bacteria on and celebrate this decade milestone with live fermentation demonstrations, meals and raffles! All of the proceeds from this year’s event will support the Alliance’s new regional food brand, Willamette Valley Grown & Crafted. Admission is a suggested donation of $10 (or $5 if you bring two cans of food for FOOD For Lane County). Kids 12 and under can attend for free and enjoy special activities in the Kid Zone.
Demonstrations will include: Composting “The Worm Way” by Master Gardener Shirley Betournay, The Art of Sauerkraut by Jessicka Nebesni, Making Vegan Cheese by Susana Romatz of Avellana Creamery, Curing Meats for Long Term Self Resilience by Jonathan Tepperman of Eugene Meat Collective, An Intuitive Approach to Fermentation by Sean Kelly of Wildcraft Cider Works, Naturally Leavened Bread by Paul Adkins of The Wheel Apizza Pub and Kombucha, Billions of Beneficial Bacteria by Josh Chamberlain of J-Tea.
Many regional businesses will offer samples of their fermented products and showcase supplies to make fermented products at home. Locally produced beers, ciders, mead, kombucha, pickles, and kimchi, and fermentation supplies will all be showcased at this event. Local vendors include: Elevate Kombucha, GloryBee Foods, Falling Sky Brewing, Lane County Master Gardeners, Nectar Creek, Oregonic Tonic, Pickled Planet, Tria Prima, Weston A. Price Foundation, Wildcraft Cider Works and more! Meals featuring fermented delectables will be available for purchase from Falling Sky deli.
This year, the fun will continue on with a fundraising after-party hosted by Bier Stein from 6:00-10:00. Join us to talk fermentation and drink the results, and $1 from each purchased beer will be donated to WVSFA. Many thanks to this year’s sponsors: Capella Market, Down To Earth, Mountain Rose Herbs, Natural Grocers, Hummingbird Wholesale, Oakshire Brewing and Springfield Creamery.
