150th Anniversary of Ebbert United Methodist Church
June 3 • 9:30 am - 5:00 pm• Free
The Ebbert United Methodist Church congregation commemorates its 150th anniversary this year. In 1868 the first pastor was sent to the small group of Methodists in Springfield. As part of this year long celebration , the community is invited to a History Walk and Picnic, Sunday, June 3 at 2 pm. We will meet in the lawn ( 6th and D St.) behind the church building. Then we will walk to the three sites where the congregation met before they built the current, brick historic building at 532 C Street. Along the walk there will be stories and skits about the early history of the congregation and Springfield. The walk will be about 1 mile. There will also be an option to ride on a hay wagon.
After the History Walk/ Ride there will be a potluck picnic on the church lawn (or the basement if there is rain). The First Baptist Church of Springfield will join in the festivities because they began several years before the Methodists and the two congregations shared a building for several years in the early days. This picnic will also include activity tables for children and families. Everyone is also welcome to the worship service that day at 9:30 am which will include honoring long time members, sharing stories of the history of the congregation and open communion.
