Allison and Victor to Perform in Coos Bay
Soulful saxophonist Victor Martin will perform alongside singer-songwriter-guitarist Allison Scull at Flapper’s Wine Bar in Coos Bay on Saturday, August 25, 8pm-10pm for an evening of jazzed up originals, original version of cover songs and upbeat characters.
“Allison & Victor’s sound blends elements of folk, jazz, blues, European and Latin music, all of which translates into a laid-back, tranquil vibe that tends to put people at ease,” according to entertainment reporter, Jim Dyar (Enjoy Magazine). Also known to sing a few songs in French, Allison voice has been compared to “young Mary Travers,” whereas Martin’s saxophone “paints color soundscapes” behind the storylines ( John Aiello of electricrev.net). This duo has shared the stage with the Blind Boys of Alabama, blues legend John Hammond, Lazy Lester Acoustic Alchemy, Tuck and Patti, and most recently famed drummer Akira Tana and Delbert Bump. Having made a splash in the wine country and festival circuit Northern California, Oregon, and Washington, these two were featured in Coos Bay at the Oregon Coast Music Festival in July 2015. Voted at the “Music Pick” for the spring edition of Southern Oregon Magazine 2015 they were also featured in their 2016 edition. Allison and Victor also play the second Tuesday of the month at Dancin Vineyards, voted the best winery in Oregon.
Victor met Allison in Dunsmuir, California when she was traveling as a solo troubadour, performing her own songs. According to Martin, “I began improvising on various songs at her shows and from there our sound developed pretty organically.” Their original song “Esperanza” was nominated in Top 10 by the International Association of Independent Recording Artists. They were also awarded a Community Achievement Award by Northern California’s Siskiyou Arts Council for: “demonstrating the spirit of creativity, heart and excellence in their work, while committing time and energy promoting the arts in their communities.”
Allison and Victor have released 3 CDs, From the Back Burner, their “Live” CD and Cool like the Breeze. They are currently in the process of working on their 4th release. Voted as the best winery in Southern Oregon in 2017, Dancin Vineyards features Allison and Victor the second Tuesday of the month.
