Beta Percussion Concert Series Michael Burritt & friends
August 9 • 8:00 am - 8:00 pm• Free
Area classical music fans have a unique opportunity this summer to see world renowned percussionists perform brand new works for free at Beall Concert Hall.
Between August 4th and 10th, the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance will be hosting the Beta Percussion International Institute an intensive week-long seminar on percussion playing and writing. The new music will be workshopped by day, and performed in the evening by some of the world’s best percussionists.
While the day time events are only open to seminar participants, the evening concerts are free and open to the public.
Michael Burritt closes out the main concert series on Thursday, August 9 at 8 p.m. Having performed on four continents and more than forty states, Burritt is one of the world’s leading percussionists and is in demand for concerts and master classes throughout the world. He has three solo recordings, which include original compositions as well as works written expressly for him. In 2017, Burritt released Home, a recording with world renown group Nexus, and in 2018 a recording of the music of Alejandro Viñao in collaboration with Third Coast Percussion.
Burritt’s compositions have in many cases become standard repertoire and are often required works in international competitions. He has been commissioned by The World Marimba Competition in Stuttgart Germany, The Paris International Marimba Competition and the Nexus Percussion Ensemble and Third Coast Percussion to mention a few. He is an artist/clinician and product design consultant for Malletech where he developed his own signature five-octave marimba of his design as well as a line of mallets and sticks. He is also an artist and educational consultant with Zildjian, Yamaha and Evans.
