Chris Orsinger, Adam Harris, & Gus Russell – 9pm show
July 26 • 9:00 pm - 10:30 pm• $12
Bassist Chris Orsinger welcomes saxophonist Adam Harris, back for his first appearance in two years.
Upon arriving in Eugene in 2012, Adam jolted the local jazz scene with his authoritative, confident melodic ideas and muscular tone. He performed numerous concerts, including a Jazz Station series exploring the works of notable composers, such Charles Mingus, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter and Miles. A favorite among Jazz Station regulars, Harris performs with conviction on both tenor and soprano saxophone. While here, Adam collaborated with George Colligan, Torrey Newhart, Tony Glausi, Adam Carlson and many others, before departing to teach in high schools, most recently in the Seattle area.
Chris Orsinger, a co-founder of The Jazz Station, leads this foray into soulful renditions on compositions by Horace Silver, Wayne Shorter, Thelonius Monk and many more. Orsinger plays acoustic bass with energy and passion, creating rhythmic foundations and harmonic depth. Veteran pianist Gus Russell lays down soulful grooves, funky moves and bluesy tones and rich chordal expressions. Aiding and abetting the conspiracy is drummer Adam Carlson (“the other Adam”) also makes a return to Eugene after immersing himself in New York’s energetic, diverse music scene.
Seize this rare opportunity to see Adam Harris back at The Jazz Station. SoulJazz uses a dynamic yet nuanced approach confers upon each musician a greater role in creating diverse soundscapes and inspired improvisations in realms ranging from hypnotic Latin Jazz, effervescent bebop, poignant blues and infectious swing—always striving to channel the essence of Soul in Jazz.
