Weekly Winter Movement for Memory classes in Eugene will resume on Wednesdays at the Hilyard Community Center in Eugene!
This 8-week session will be taught by Certified Master DanceAbility Teacher Jana Meszaros and assisted by Brain Dance practitioner Jay Hall. Movement for Memory is a movement experience for all people that is designed to support the connection between the brain and the body. In these classes, participants will be led through a movement narrative made up of simple tasks that correlate specifically to certain brain and neurological processes. Participants will be able to follow along in any way, whether with their body, their imagination, with a partner or without.
Movement for Memory was formulated over the course of three years when Meszaros cared full time for a loved one with Frontal Lobe Dementia and discovered improved presence, attention, and brain functioning as a result of the creative things that they would do to be together. This summer, an 8-week series was sponsored by the City of Eugene’s Downtown Program Fund where more than 70 people took part in Movement for Memory classes in the downtown park blocks and at HiFi Music Hall. As this research continues, Meszaros invites people of all ages, abilities, and states of mind to come to class. The inclusive teachings from the DanceAbility method ensure that no one is isolated regardless of ability.
For these classes, family members and aides are encouraged to attend at no additional cost.
