Evolution of Organic, a new film by Mark Kitchell; Eugene Premiere
July 18 • 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm• $6 – $12
Organic food is everywhere. Some grocery stores dedicate their whole inventory to organic food and Albertsons has gone so far to brand a line, O Organics. This didn’t happen overnight. Filmmaker Mark Kitchell will bring his new film, Evolution of Organic, to Eugene as a part of its grassroots release. The film tells the story of organic agriculture, which features interviews with those who helped build the movement. It’s not just centered on the history but how the organic movement is projected to grow in the future — from combating climate change to soil microbiology as the new frontier. All ticket sales will go toward Beyond Toxic’s new project, Non-Toxic Oregon. A panel discussion featuring leaders of organic-focused organization will follow the screening. The panel includes Lisa Arkin, executive director of Beyond Toxics; Marissa Zarate of Huerto de la Familia; and David Lively of Organically Grown Company. The event starts 6 pm Wednesday, July 18 at the Bijou Art Cinema (492 E. 13th Avenue). Ticket prices range from $6-$8. — Henry Houston
