First Youth Orchestra Concerts of the 85th Season
December 11 • 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
One event on December 12, 2018 at 7:30pm
Developing orchestral chops is almost like Jedi training. You have to start young no matter what your musical skills are — kind of like how although Anakin Skywalker had more midi-chlorian levels than any Jedi ever, Yoda still didn’t want to train him because he was too old. Luckily, Eugene-Springfield Youth Orchestra has been around for 85 years to help the youth be prepared for the music world. The organization kicks off its 85th season with a two-night season opener. The first night will feature their Little Symphony string ensemble and the Junior Orchestra. The next night, the Eugene-Springfield Youth Symphony will perform a program of well-heard classical music. You can expect George Gershwin’s American in Paris, Georges Bizet’s L’Arlesienne No. 2and the first movement of Alexander Borodin’s Symphony No. 2— as well as other works.
Eugene-Springfield Youth Orchestras opens its 85th season 7:30 pm Tuesday, Dec. 11 and Wednesday, Dec. 12. The concerts take place at South Eugene High School, 400 E. 19th Avenue. Tickets are free for children under 12, $5 for students and $10 for adults. — Henry Houston
