Gaining a Cosmic Perspective: An Astronomical Look at Our Place in the Universe

November 16 • 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Free

A free program presented by the Eugene Natural History Society, by Scott Fisher.  Fisher is a faculty member of the U of O’s physics department, where he teaches introductory-level astronomy courses and serves as the Director for Undergraduate Studies.  In his talk, augmented with pictures and videos from observatories like the Hubble Space Telescope and our own Pine Mountain Observatory, Fisher will connect us to the universe we inhabit using a scale that relates the actual size of the universe to the audience. He will then tell us about one of the most exciting recent discoveries in all of astronomy—the existence of exo-planets.
