Mario Kart Tournament for Homeless Kids
October 6 • 12:00 pm - 7:30 pm• $10 – $20
Courtesy of Stormy Daniels, choosing Toadstool as your driver on Mario Kart will remind you of a certain presidential figure. Thankfully, the newer versions have several other options. So, choose your driver and get ready for the city of Eugene Parking Services’ Mario Kart tournament that will support homeless youth throughout the community. The tournament supports 15th Night, a nonprofit that aids unhoused youth who attend school. And homelessness in school-aged is rampant in Eugene: 325 students experienced homelessness, and 90 of them dropped out. The tournament will also support funding a role-playing video game that would inform students how to find safe alternatives if facing homelessness. Of course, besides bragging rights, the tournament’s winner will take home a brand new Nintendo Switch and participants will all have chance to grab some refreshments during the event.
The tournament is Saturday, Oct. 6 at 22 West 7th Avenue in the commercial space beneath the Parcade Garage. Doors open at 11:30 am for those 7 to 11 years old and runs noon to 3 pm. For those 12 to 18 years old, doors open at 4 pm and runs 4:30 to 7:30 pm. Younger participants pay $10, older pay $20. Tickets are available on Eventbrite. — Henry Houston
