The CLDC and Rogue Climate, 2 organizations in Oregon committed to environmental and social justice, put on a summer camp each year for youth who want to learn more skills around becoming activists and learning to use their voices for change!
At camp, about 35 youth will come together to form alliances, learn from experienced mentors and frontline organizers, and gain the skills to fight for climate justice in a fun and safe setting. Workshops to include: Campaign strategy, demonstration planning, protest art and banner making, theater and poetry for activism, public speaking, writing press releases, using the media, know your rights, decolonizing our activism and more. Opportunities for nature hikes, lake swimming, campfire songs and story telling! The week will culminate in a youth-led public event focused on a regional climate justice campaign.
Though the focus is climate justice, the skills taught in this camp apply to any cause a youth may want to work on. We also focus on racial justice, economic justice and gender justice, because we realize true climate justice is intersectional and involves the liberation of us all.
One more thing worth mentioning, is that while our camp costs $350, there is an unlimited amount of scholarships for youth to attend for free. They are not competitive. One important camp value is accessibility, and we don’t want anyone to be unable to come because of money.
