Quack Chats Pub Talk “It’s Getting Hot in Here: Why Sperm Can’t Handle the Heat and What Biologists are Discovering About Genetic Inheritance”
May 23 • 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm• Free
How do we transmit our DNA, without mistakes, to our offspring and why do things sometimes go wrong? University of Oregon biologist Diana Libuda will explore these and other questions in a Quack Chats pub talk. Libuda will focus on one of her research projects examining why an increase in temperature can cause damage to DNA during sperm development and lead to male infertility. She will also talk about how scientists effectively make use of research using model systems such as nematodes, fruit flies, and yeast, and look at the history of genetics — not to mention the future, too.
