Science Salon: Get down to business with Science Entrepreneurs!

December 9 • 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

$5

If you aren’t getting rich off of science like Elon Musk, what are you doing with your life? Science Salon: Get Down to Business with Science Entrepreneurs is a chance to meet female scientists who currently run science companies in Eugene (and are probably exponentially cooler and better people than Musk). The event features two local scientists: Christina Aiyami, Ph.D. and Janis C. Weeks, Ph. D. Aiyami is founder and CEO of Magnosys Labs and Aiyami Consulting. As a chemical biologist, she is an expert in joining small molecules to proteins and making those proteins tell important information. Weeks is co-founder and chief global health officer of University of Oregon’s spin-off company NemaMetrix, Inc, which develops technologies to improve human health, including a focus on genetic forms of epilepsy. The first half hour features fluorescent bubbles and worms, then the two scientists take over for a presentation. The last 30 minutes lets you ask whatever is on your mind.

Science Salon runs 4:30 to 6:30 pm Sunday, Dec. 9, at the First National Taphouse, located at 51 W. Broadway. $5 suggested donation. — Henry Houston
