Skate Rising Feed The Need 2018 Tour
July 14 • 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm• Free
Women aren’t new to skateboarding. It’s just that the industry has historically focused on people like Tony Hawk, who made skateboarding even more popular thanks to his videogames and landing the “900.” But a nonprofit called Exposure Skate, which works to empower women and girls through skateboarding, is working with Tactics Boardshop to bring Skate Rising Feed The Need Tour. The tour focuses on using skateboarding to teach “compassion through service and empowerment” to girls between the ages of 4 to 18. Professional coaches with Stomp Sessions, a mobile app that has lessons from pro skaters, will be available to offer free lessons. If you don’t have a skateboard, some are available for rent. And anyone can enter raffles to win skate gear. During the event, participants will be able to help build care kits that are meant to benefit those experiencing homelessness.
The Skate Rising Feed the Need Tour comes to Washington-Jefferson Skatepark, located at Washington Street and Jefferson Street. The event is noon to 2 pm Saturday, July 14. FREE. — Henry Houston
