July 15 • 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm• free
Songsmith Sunday is a monthly showcase of some of the Eugene area’s finest singer/songwriters in a listening environment where their voices and hearts can truly be heard. Songsmith takes place every third Sunday of the month, 6-8pm at Sam Bonds Brewery in the Foundry Building, 540 E. 8th Ave, Eugene.
This month’s show features Gary Reed, Kathy Marshall, and Ken Zimmerman.
Gary Reed is a writer of vocal and instrumental songs and an accomplished guitarist. His music is a mixture of pop, Americana, and country with a touch of blues. He performs both solo and as an accompanist, tastefully blending technique and style. His vocal songs have been described as engaging, fun, humorous, and from-the-heart. They explore topics from failed dance lessons to struggles with strong-willed women. Comments about his finger and flatpicking instrumental guitar music include beautiful, relaxing, and carefully crafted.
Kathy Marshall lives at Stillpoint, a spiritual gathering place in Veneta, Oregon, located on an organic farm with her partner Gina Thomas. She is so grateful to be living and breathing here, right here, right now, standing on Sacred Ground and listening to the gifts that are present in each moment. Kathy’s beautiful CD “Standing on Sacred Ground” showcases her spiritual grounding. Her poignant lyrics are enriched by her elegant guitar and vocals. She is currently finishing up a new album.
Ken Zimmerman is a co-founder and one of the hosts of Songsmith Sunday. He is well-known in Eugene as a teacher, poet, and writer as well as a singer/songwriter. His music is rooted in the folk and blues traditions, while branching into new forms. His poetic lyrics will make you think and make you laugh, and his catchy rhythms and hooks will get you tapping your feet and singing along. Ken also plays with the band Cross Current.
