Symphony Happy Hour
October 15 • 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm• Free
Classical music can be intimidating with all those wild strings, blasting horns and temperamental composers. But it’s more than just pretty noise. There’s logic to the art. Symphony Happy Hour has Eugene Symphony music director and conductor Francesco Lecce-Chong breaking down the upcoming concert: “Beethoven and Bernstein.” The Oct. 18 concert features Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8, Leonard Bernstein’s Symphony No. 2 and David Schiff’s Stomp. If you’re looking for drink ideas, Beethoven’s favorite drink was wine and Bernstein drank lots of Scotch. Since it’s a happy hour, it’s appropriate to have a few drinks and really immerse yourself in the works of the upcoming concert. And, unlike a performance, you can leave or arrive whenever you want. However, you could also stick around and mobilize some of the knowledge you gained from the Symphony Happy Hour by signing up for a slot in Rudy “The King” Korv’s open mic Mondays.
The event is held at the First National Taphouse, located at 51 W. Broadway Avenue on Monday, Oct. 15. Get started with drinks at 5 to 5:30 pm with the presentation starting at 5:30 pm. FREE. — Henry Houston
